President, Maritz Global Events
As president of Maritz Global Events and original co-chair of the U.S. Travel Association’s Meetings Mean Business Coalition, David Peckinpaugh is seen throughout the events industry as a passionate leader and tireless advocate. Over the last 30 years, David has experienced nearly every facet of the industry – from hotels and CVBs to sales and marketing and business strategy.
In his current role, David leads Maritz Global Events, providing strategic oversight for both Maritz Travel and Experient – two of the largest and most respected leaders in the event industry with more than 4 million room nights booked, 8,500 programs planned and executed and nearly $1 billion in total event spend annually. With his Executive Leadership Team, David sets the business strategy and future direction of the collective companies, while ensuring the companies consistently design and deliver exceptional experiences to clients and their guests.
Since joining in 2011, David has led the company through significant financial and employee growth, placing renewed focus on clients, industry partnerships and global presence. He has also significantly invested in reenergizing the company’s culture. He introduced the company’s signature core value “First, Take Good Care of Each Other,” which has led to the company-wide initiative of “Unleashing Human Potential.” This aspirational movement is based on a focus on a dual bottom line where both financial and people results are recognized and celebrated. In addition, David has also championed the company’s fight against human trafficking and to build awareness throughout the industry of this insidious crime.
His passion and advocacy on behalf of the events industry has earned David accolades and recognition from peers and organizations including MPI Rise Award’s Meetings Industry Leadership, the Joint Meetings Industry Council’s Unity Award, Incentive Travel Council’s Advocate of the Year and one of Successful Meetings’ 25 Most Influential People.
David is a board member of the U.S. Travel Association, member of the Meetings Means Business Coalition, and Secretary and Treasurer of the PCMA Education Foundation. He also serves on advisory boards for Delta Airlines, Tourism Vancouver, the Destination Marketing Association International, Taj Group, Social Tables and Saint Louis University’s School of Professional Studies. In addition, David is a Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) by the Convention Industry Council and is an honorary Master Designer with The Maritz Institute.
